more images with different views of the same object. It is a primitive piece as you can see. It is held together by nails. Looks like it was cut out of one piece of tree.

The pictures are still blurry but aside from that you did get closer to show it better. If we were to assume it is original (which pictures can't tell) I would say it was made around 1840 or so......give or take 10 years. But keep in mind these are faked. Have it looked at in person, not in a picture.

Took a look at your new pics (Thanks for posting). Piece made to look out in my Opinion. Normal wear ( from Years, and Years) does not leave ridge marks like a sander does. Third pic (top part of purse) you can see ridge marks going diagonally on the grain. Wear does not leave ridge mark.....wear is wear. There should also be more wear on the edges as those are the areas that first get dinged.

I also note in the 4th picture there is a type of green rust on the wood. Wood does not rust. Also in that picture you see marks going down like a sander had made them by the clasp. My opinion remains the same. Made to look primitive.

Nice Decor piece as it displays very well....and I would display it in my home.

And I chirp in and say whatever year it was made that there are 2 we have seen must have been made by a cottage industry to sell to tourists ?

All good folks, that clasp being green is that that is wrapped in leather I am guessing and that wire, which forms the handle is copper and has oxidized.

AntiqueRose you mention at the beginning "...Piece made to look out..." or did you mean "at"? Essentially decorative. Fake... wondering, if whoever made it may have found one and tried to make a copy of the design. With that scenario, I then wonder about the clasp..

I do see the ridge marks and note that this item appears to have been made out of a section of a tree in one whole piece. The bark had to have been removed; speculate that that may be why there are ridge marks.. again Plausibility?

Well thank you both for reviewing. It is always nice to see the past in any form and wonder about the makers and the times.
It is also possible that it was made and never was used or got a chance to be used. Is that plausible?
