This is my restored Canadian WWII helmet that I just finished. I think it turned out nice. I posted several pics of the 'before' helmet and it's rather colorful coat.

I stripped it right down to bare metal. Applied a light coat of flat olive drab and let it dry for several days. I found a used cork and sanded it down to nothing. Put the media in a salt shaker. Applied a wet coat of paint and then immediately shook the sanded cork onto the wet surface. I let it dry for an hour then applied the final coat.

All that's left is to find an appropriate regimental flash for the sides.

As to Regimental and or Battalion flashes you will find there are many to choose from as to using original water slide transfer decals you will have a couple of problems associated with using them the first being they are 70+ years old and will have deteriorated and very probably will break apart when transferring them from the paper surface to the helmet body and they will not adhere well to a rough surface
They are also quite collectible in there own right as they are for the most part very rare in there un-issued un-applied original configuration .
Personally if I were to add a flash to this particular Mk II it would be in the form of a hand painted flash you can find a good selection at the link below.
