    Hi,

I bought this mystery silver looking metal oil lamp from an estate lot. It has to be from my neck of the woods, because many years ago, that's all the mountain people had to use.
What I can't figure out : How was this thing used? The little "stack' sticking up like a smoke stack, is hollow. all the way to the bottom. You can look into it & see the table it sits on.
so, the oil 'well' is the round part around the stack, with the small hole in it. I'm guessing that's where the lamp oil was poured.
Where was the wick? Is it missing parts?
I know some of you can figure out this mystery.
I am making a lamp out of this. See my next post for the lamp in progress.
    Thanks!

Has earmarks of a Kayo brand.

thanks blunderbuss2,. I am looking that (Kayo) up & so far have found nothing. But I will keep researching
    3. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 10 years ago
If a Kayo, the name would have been in raised letters on the missing filler cap.

I think someone made a blunder and meant "Rayo", not "Kayo":

OK, OK. So now I've made my 2nd mistake in 68 yrs! Actually, I see both spellings when I look up "KAYO". Maybe only 1 1/2 mistakes. I would have sworn that the one I had said "Kayo". Yes, it talked to me! Have to take into consideration that I was living in Jamaica at the time. '70's! LOL!!

Mistakes are only opportunities with the collar turned down!
I am thrilled to see a picture of my lamp as it used to be. So I am missing some parts. That explains it! You all are the best. Now on with my project to turn in into an electric lamp
      Appreciate this

While looking, I see that there are many replacement parts available. Do it right.
    8. herbgrower herbgrower, 10 years ago
well I am all ears. Make it a lamp or put it back like "new"? And where are these parts available?
    9. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 10 years ago
I just plugged in Kayo lamps & saw many parts on ebay. If I can do it, anybody can!

it's all good. I have a lot of help now. Thx!

Kydur, I hope I die as hard (double meaning)! Don't want to die with my boots on, but in the saddle sounds OK! The secret to eternal like is to know where you are going to die. Then, - you just don't go there!

Humm! I think a tiny clot just slipped thru & guess it was Rayo. LOL!!

Here's where you can get your parts or at least find out what you're missing then look for a cheaper place to buy them. https://www.antiquelampsupply.com/rayo-lamp-part-index
