Taihei is a company I know nothing about and my research has hit a bit of a dead end.

I have found a number of Taihei vases advertised online and they are all in a style similar to this; generally large, colourful and cased, with the typically ground base and hot finished rim of 1960s Japanese glass.

Their decor is often quite different to other Japanese glass houses and this one is quite unusual with it's marbled red, black lines and opalescent interior.

In the last picture you will see the Taihei Made in Japan sticker on the vase.

I really like this one - the black and red work cleverly together and it has been beautifully made and finished. Clearly Taihei knew what they were doing, and I imagine they must have had some association with another accomplished glass company. I am guessing here but Taihei is a place in Fukuoka Provence, so perhaps the company was associated with Fukuoka Glass, now known as Marti Glass.
    Research continuing.....

I posted this piece almost a year ago Karen. As I mentioned I love red. What's your opinion on this piece. I really don't have much info about it at all even though it's signed. -Mike-

Mike I had a look at your piece (at last sorry) and it looks like Rick has IDed it.

No apologies Anne - glad you could drop in and enjoy it now!.
I know that you have really been swanning around Noosa getting the mani/pedi, sun, gold jewelery, hand coloured silk sarongs, and drinking lots of strawberry daiquiris. Well, the SWANning around might be right! lol.

I bet this is amazing in person. Lots of depth.

I was talking to a friend of mine that loves Knotts Berry Farm, just a few cities away from here and I remembered when I was young how much I used to love watching the glass blowers there make little animals that stand on mirrors and other pieces. Something to remember when looking at all this amazing glass!

      Thanks Sue!
It's easy to forget how much work and skill goes into ANY glassblowing.
