i picked this up the other day at the Alameda Flea Market. I just love it! Obsidian seems so incredibly hard to carve - like carving glass. The bust was carved separately from the base and then epoxied on. i've seen some crude obsidian carvings, but this one is so smooth and beautiful. it's 8 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide x 5 inches deep. unsigned.

Hand Carved Obsidian King Pakal Sculpture.
it is a beautiful copy of a sculpture of Pakal found at Palenque [one of the most beautiful ruins in Latin America, by the way!]. there's some others i found online, but not as beautiful as this one [in my opinion].

Hi ho2, this is fantastic. Lucky you. What I wouldn't give to find something like this. Unlikely in the UK I guess (but you never know:) the fact that its Aztec (which I've long been fascinated by) & obsidian. I'm so envious :)
