(1 item)
Antique button, possibly silver, origin unknown.
Has the number 1748 stamped/engraved on it as
Well as a number one in an oval at the bottom.
Also shows what is possibly a coat of arms.
The back is blank.
Hello CarolynB:
May we please see the reverse? It looks a lot like 1 Kreutzer coins from HRE/German states at the time.
Welcome to AK,

Lol! AK, I meant CW.
Again welcome,

There is nothing on the back which lead me to believe it wasn't a coin. I can still send you a picture if you are interested.
Please, thank you.

@TubeAmp - I added a couple more pictures.
Thank you.
So, as I said, the design was originally a coin, http://www.ma-shops.com/zufahl/item_print.php5?id=2657&lang=en&curr=USDEUR&save=1
This was molded from a coin and cast as a button. Looking at the shine, I would suspect that it isn't too terribly old.

Thanks for your feedback. My aunt is 80 years old and she says she's had the button for a very long time. She did immigrate from Holland with the rest of her family in 1946, so for her to have a coin/button of German origin is not a stretch.
My pleasure. Thanks for sharing.

Do you know what these buttons would be used on?
Buttons that copied coins were popular and considered patriotic with individuals in the military for their coats.

This is an article on the Montfort coins.
That oval coat of arms with the 'helmet' led me astray for hours !!
Then I found this:
http://www.foerderkreis-heimatkunde.de/geschichte/wappen-in-tettnang/wappen-der-montfort.php
It is actually a flag with three loops at the top and three branches - one of the oldest coat of arms in Europe used by the Grafen of Montfort.
OOPS!
I left off the link to the coins of Montfort:

Oh! Thus is amazing information! Thank you so much!
