    This could be from the 1800s or it could be more recent as they still use these in some parts of Asia. The vintage ones have sharper detail on the rooster but then again it could have spent the last 50 years outside.
    The rooster is for opening and closing the iron to add or remove coals.

      I just saw one of these this past weekend at an antique mall. I had never seen one until then and this will be only the second one I've ever seen. Very cool!!

      Love it, the rooster is a very special detail. I think is very heavy as well, great piece.

      Thank. Oh yes it is you very much Virginia.vintage. The rooster was a major selling point for me. It is actually light compared to the solid sad irons. Those will build up your muscles.
