This is another Salvation Army treasure. A large sterling silver dragonfly brooch. The wing span is 3" across. The bottom wings are a lacy realistic pattern and gold, while the rest of the piece is done in silver. There are three marks on this piece but only the .925 is legible. I've seen a few of these online where the .925 mark appears on the wings. All mine are on the tail section. Most of these pins were done in all silver and vary a bit in design. The online descriptions say vintage and indicate Mexican, British or unknown origins. The bottom wings on this one could also be gold plated. Maybe that's what the extra hallmarks mean, but as I say you can't make them out. -Mike-
Huh. Certainly a handsome piece. I think I see one on eBay right now that looks like yours, but theirs only has the 925 stamp, take a look.

Thanks Katherine :) I've seen several they all seem slightly different from mine though. In terms of marks and then the gold bottom wings. I think mine may be older and the others are copies. Kind of a mystery why they vary so much.
Yes that is curious. Good luck tracking it down!
On a related note, I've often wondered why we don't have more costume jewelry experts on S&T.
Lovely Mike! Insect brooches are always good but this one has so much grace - as do most dragonflies.
Thanks Karen I like reptile and insect jewelry too :)..... I have a couple but this one is really my favorite now. I also have some ladybug things too that I've never posted. Maybe someday.
Gorgeous.
