A rare and excellent example of Qing Dynasty framed silk hand embroidered portrait depicting a bearded man with hat against a grey ground and a period woman against a grey ground that measure 13.5" long x 10.5" wide each (not including the frame).
These was purchased in China in the 1960's.
One appraiser noted, "His features are well defined, he has a really marvelous face and overall it is a perfect example of the art of Qing Dynasty embroidery."
Really beautiful
It's amazing how it looks like a photograph at a distance but then you can see the fine silk thread up close. Excellent workmanship. I wonder the date? Can the signatures be interpreted?
I never could find out what the signature said...here are some close-ups if anyone would like to take a crack at it. jaeterdojo.weebly.com
Take note, that I NEVER clk on something Oriental. But this caught my attention! I may change my attitude. Really grabs you/me, anyway! Thanks. You may have given me a new perspective. I usually associate Oriental with left coast & didn't like it there so skip over them. Thanks again for altering my view.
Absolutely exquisite embroideries. I could look at these a very long time.
Incredible, to say the least!! Thanks for sharing!
