My mother got these on a trip to Florida to visit her family in the late 1940s/ early 1950s. She grew up around Seminole Indians and one of her ancestors was a Creek Indian. She told me that the body of these dolls was made from palmetto root. The dresses were sewn by hand I believe. They have what appears to be glass beads around their necks.
Lovely, they are so sweet!!
Thank you Virginia!
Does anyone know what year this Seminole doll could be? I was told the following information but this is all I have been able to find out.
Seminole Indian doll..South Florida..possibly Miccasukee tribe
There's a couple of people on here that may drop a comment on this thread if they see it.
Manikin, CanyonRoad, any ideas on these dolls? I'd like to learn about them, too. :)
Seminole dolls were made as tourist dolls by Seminole's when tribe moved to Florida and was a way to make a income
Here is a good article
