At one time men really loved to buy rings with stones. Actually men's rings with diamonds and other stones are quite popular again. This is one of many from my personal collection that has been with me for a dozen years or better. I am unsure what this particular stone is called. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help here.

***Update: Thanks to Dottie I have found out the stone has a "cushion cut" and thanks to Kim the type of stone is either February birthstone which is an Amethyst or it could possibly be June's birthstone which is Alexandrite. Thanks to both of you great gals for helping out a male "dummy".

Gee,I seem to be attracted to mens rings.First the Emerald now this one,I suppose it's because I love large square stones.I'am pretty sure this is Amethyst.BTW I found out this is called cushion cut so the emerald stone has the same type of cut. Also the emerald may very well be real,I don't think stones were reproduced in quartz all that long ago,at least if they were they were not set in gold. Then again,I am no expert LOL
I see from one of your comments that you live in FL,my birthplace is Panama City. After the winter we had here I almost wished I was back there but it is finally turning spring and now I love it here again.
      Well,I hope you have a fun evening.5 hours???on the internet,you are a trooper!

Thank you so much Dottie. I love when as the day is almost done, I've learned something new. Wow, that would be quite the coup if that emerald was real. I'm going to edit the post to reflect this newly found out info. And the credit will go to you. Thanks. And yes, I live in Fl. Jacksonville to be exact and we just went through one bodacious cold winter. I'm thinking that it may be over with for the most part, thank goodness. I abhor cold weather. I'm a Florida boy and up until just a few years ago, I would leave and head south and spend each winter in the Bahamas. I always left on Jan 5th and would usually spend 4-8 weeks there. I would get back late Feb or early March with a killer tan and the cold weather would be all but gone. Now that's the way to spend a winter. This winter I was here for all the cold and I didn't like it one bit. I've also been to Panama City many times during "spring break" (even though I've been outta college for many years) Last summer I took my two boys (13 & 15) and the boat over for two weeks at Destin Fl which is right next door to Panama City. Beautiful beaches/water and gorgeous people. I like everything about it except there are no waves/surf there. Thanks for your comment. Stay in touch... kerry

I think this ring is a June birthstone ring. These rings were made with the
different birthstone colors and were usually synthetic. It could be amethyst, the February birthstone but the color looks more like the June stone, alexandrite.
Also a lot of older rings have imitation stones in them because access to genuine stones was limited.

Thanks for the info on these rings as well. You are a "treasure trove" of info. Thank you. If the stone is for Feb, I may even start wearing it as my birthday is 2/18 Thanks again for looking and for commenting.
