Unsure of this stone either. I'm kinda starting to feel pretty dumb. I know about how old it is and I know that it's 10k. And I even know the size. But the stone... Oh well...

Does the stone change color at all? If it's Alexandrite it will change under different light conditions such as sunlight, florescent and incandescent. If it doesn't, it's most likely amethyst.

You're very welcome. Test the ring.... all ya gotta do is look at it when you're inside your house.... then go look at it when you're outside. You'll see the difference if there is one.

This stone in this pic looks to me like a type of Garnet stone. Garnet is my birthstone and I have a ring of that hue. Garnets range in color, not just simple dark red. Beautiful rings you have shown on this site! I have a couple that were my grandmother's from the 40's and I cherish them! Bought an old 1940's set at a pawn shop as the ring sparkled at me from way across the room! 3/4 carat diamond engagement ring it turned out to be! love it!
