I am posting today two Moorcroft vases that we could buy because the seller has no idea of what they were. In fact the first one we bought, this one, we had any idea about it but that I really liked me. All my favorite colors together and daisies, also a flower I like. We took it from Dorita Ferrari shop “Cambalache” in Gob. Bustos almost Nuñez Av. in Córdoba. She is our friend and the prices are always convenient because her philosophy is that the important thing is to sell. Our vase is very similar to the one here http://www.treadwaygallery.com/lotInfo.php?i=43473#.VNvHl9KG_BI but the mix of colors is superior in ours from my point of view. I really adore it and perhaps Paris will love it also. Is fully marked (second picture) printed mark in green, painted signature and des. in green it has 14.5 cm. height, it dates from the Moorcroft designs of 1902-1903. Wikipedia explains this signature “In 1897 Staffordshire pottery manufacturers James Macintyre & Co. Ltd employed 24-year-old William Moorcroft as a designer, and within a year he was put in full charge of the company's art pottery studio. Moorcroft's first innovative range of pottery, called Florian Ware, was a great success and won him a gold medal at the St. Louis International Exhibition in 1904. Unusually at that time, he adopted the practice of signing his name, or his initials, on nearly all the pottery he designed, the production of which he personally oversaw. In due course the extent to which his success had overshadowed Macintyre's other manufacturing activities resulted in resentment on the part of his employers, culminating in their decision in 1912 to close down his studio. He then set up his own company and the following year production of his pottery was transferred to a brand new factory nearby.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorcroft. The next post will contain a newer vase of the same company. You can appreciate the glossy aspect of the surface and the high definition of the design.
