Arthur O. Jennings was born in November of 1848. He was a clockmaker and former manager of the Jerome Clock Company. In 1883 formed the Manhattan Watch Company. The factory was located at 158 Monroe Street, New York City and occupied the greater portion of a six story building. The company produced low priced watches only. The movements were generally 16 size, and full plate. The winding was considerably different from that employed in most American watches. They had a button on the right side that set the time. They manufactured a time only without a second hand, most had a sweep-seconds hand. Most dials were paper dials. Early ones with minute marks only, sweep-seconds with seconds marks, they also had a “Ship’s Bell Time” dial and a 24-Hour dial. They also made a stop watch & it had two buttons and the one on the left hand side stopped & started the watch. The Manhattan Watch Company produced about 160,000 movements in its short life span (1883-1891-2). Most of the watches were cased (open & hunting cases) at the factory and sold as complete watches, which was unusual for that period of time.
This example shown with the large winding wheel on the movement, is one of the early (scarce) movements manufactured.
It is time only (with no seconds hand which is common on most manufactured).
The button on the right side, when pulled up and turned, sets the time. It is a stem wind movement.
The dial is a coated paper dial with minute marks only(a spare dial also shown).
    Thanks for looking,
    Dave

I follow pocket watches but don't collect them. Why have I never heard of this brand?

BB2, I'm not sure why you haven't heard of these. These were low priced watches and most likely overlooked by most collectors.
      Thanks for the appreciation.
