1886 A H Folsom albumen print of a coal company in Boston, MA. There is a ship being loaded with coal in the back and some interesting posters on the side of the building. It is large but has some condition issues. There are several large "cracks" in the photo. I currently have it framed in a glass poster frame. Any ideas on preservation?

Nice image-- it is a shame about the damage.

You are doing best for "on the cheap" preservation. Of course you could go the route with archival framing, but I think that is too much based on the photo. If it is a family piece or has particular sentimental value, then I would consider archival framing.

Restoration is another matter-- but also very costly.

Thanks for the information. It only cost me a couple dollars and I know there is not much value to it so I will probably stick with what I have unless I find something better cheaply.

Find a frame for cheap at an antique store. Vintage photo in a vintage frame is a great combination.
