I bought it some years ago for lucite costume pin!
It was very, very dirty, the mount is amazing with tiny hinges to hold mechanism and gold decor on the crystal ring!
The jadeite chinese butterfly is high quality with no breaks.
Two tiny diamonds in the center of flowers.
Unmarked white gold.
Big: 1.3/4" diameter!
No idea of maker or country of origin, I feel it to be 1925/1935 era.
Any clue?
Another Butterfly, it's lovely and unusually.

Very similar Rock crystal surround, now to find the butterfly.

So I think your brooch is from the Art Deco period
Wow... Kyra, this is amazing. Very beautiful.
Peasejean, beautiful links, thanks! I think mine is not strictly Art Deco due to the naturalistic flowers and leaves decor, pure art Deco is more geometric or stylized, so this lean me to rather 1935.
DrFluffy, many many thanks :-)
Thanks Kyra for bringing this to your forum, I had no idea how beautiful Rock Crystals can be.
Another beauty.
Kyra how can you tell if something like this is rock crystal or glass? Such a big piece and I am sure you have a method. Thanks!
Unusual and beautiful! And real everything!!! Do you think someone had this special made? Amazing for sure.
Racer, glass is usually molded rather than cut, a seam or trace of it would be visible. Above all, the glow of cristal is different, and "feeling" from experience generally make it!
Though, without gemmology instruments, making out if it is ROCK crystal very pure or lead crystal is impossible...
Yes, I think it was a custom made as I've not seen this model anywhere.
Peasejean, thank you so much for your compliment :-)
What a lovely stylish piece, and good on you for buying it as costume jewelry and then discovering it was precious jade, rock crystal, diamonds and white gold!
I think it must be a scarf clip:

I agree probably pre-WW2, late 1920's to 1930's. A lot of jade buttons from mandarin costumes and hair ornaments were coming out of Republican China and being incorporated into jewelry around this time. If I had to guess I would say it's French.
In an exclusive shop today this would go for a lot of money - congratulations!
So pleased with your visit, kiwipaul! Pleased too with your aging opinion which joins mine :-)
Old chinese imperial era where too incorporated in republic and later period era in export chinese jewellery. Precious parures and court necklaces were dismanteled!
You may be right for scarf clip, I was thinking too a pin to hold a drapé on shoulder or hip.
Thousand thanks for your visit and comment !
Yes, I meant to say a a "scarf pin", cheers

Tkx Stillwater! We all love this kind of finds ;-))
Wonderful, and from the decade that I love!
Thanks Vintagelamp :-)
