Purchased this great deco style Universal at an antique swap meet. The seller, a cranky jeweler was originally asking too much, as it is solid gold. He said he was "insulted" with my offer, and threatened to scrap this great looking, fully running watch, just to get the gold scrap price. I felt bad all month, and could not imagine anyone doing that.
Fortunately, at the next show he still had the watch, but had forgotten about my offer--I guess he got more reasonable since it hadn't sold, and this has been running great ever since. I'm guessing 1940's era.
