This is a souvenir handerchief brought back from France in 1946 by an Army soldier who carried it back to America to give it to his wife. The soldier was drafted and sent to Europe. He brought back about 10 of these handerkerchiefs because he could put them inside his jacket and
hope that the handerkerchiefs and himself made it home to his wife and baby daughter. He never recounted his war experiences but did say that thinking about giving his wife such beautiful handerkerchiefs made him never give up hope for himself and for a better future for all people.
