A couple of years ago, we were visiting out of state relatives. I found a whole display of these yo-yos at an antique barn. I bought one because I used to play with yo-yos alot when I was a kid and hadn't seen wooden yo-yos before and it was only $3. On the way home, I called my relative and asked her to go back and buy the rest of them. We were going camping with a bunch of friends in a couple of weeks and I wanted to give a yo-yo to each of the kids. I ended up giving away about a dozen yo-yos. Yesterday I came across the two that I have left and wondered how much they might be worth or if they were collectible. I searched the internet and found some similar yo-yos, but not this one. I'm wondering if I did the equivalent of putting rare baseball cards in the spokes of my bicycle.
It is described on the packaging as a Champion Hardwood BC YoYo. The name printed on the yoyo is Rainbow #52 made in USA." Next to the barcode on the bottom of the package is the word "Blackbird" and under that, "#20117."
Any information about this yo-yo would be appreciated.
The presence of the barcode on the package denotes it as at least post-1972 Apparently, they are still available as per link below, but obviously $3 apiece was a bargain and you benefitted from making a lot of kids happy. http://www.usastrojax.com/BC_Rainbow_YoYo_p/yo_rainbow.htm
Thank you very much for your response. In a way, I'm glad they are still in production...nothing to regret! Have a great day.
