this Tea [Óchâ] Container is
designed to look like a Kokeshi doll.
As a kid in the Philippines, I thought thel KOKESHI is a containers or a dispenser or something. There goes my "functionability" theory.
The Russian inventor of the meaningful Nesting Doll or THE MATRIYOSHKA took inspiration from the Japanese KOKESHI.
He travelled to Japan to search for something to replace VODKA as the frontier image of his country since this strong clear drink derived from potato may have negative connotations.
What seems to be interesting is that when I first saw the Matriyoshka, I thought it was a container for vodka and it comes with various sizes of shot glasses and jiggers.
In connection, the first time I saw kokeshi back when I was a kid, I thought it was a ballister converted into a container of things like salt, pepper, spices, sugar, tea, etc...
