Published 2004 by Hyperion Books, New York / ©2004 Comedy Concepts
hardcover book with dust jacket / 295 pages / Humor and comedy
** George Carlin (1937-2008) was an American comedian, social critic, actor, and author. Carlin was noted for his black comedy and his thoughts on politics, the English language, psychology, religion, and various taboo subjects. Carlin and his "Seven dirty words" comedy routine were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case in which a decision affirmed the government's power to regulate indecent material on the public airwaves. He was a frequent performer and guest host on The Tonight Show during the three-decade Johnny Carson era, and hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live. During 1976-1977 he appeared regularly on CBS Television's Tony Orlando & Dawn variety series. Carlin was the author of two bestsellers (Napalm & Silly Putty, and Brain Droppings), released eighteen comedy albums, appeared in eleven feature films, wrote and performed twelve HBO comedy specials, received four Grammy Awards, six Cable Ace Awards, and was nominated for four Emmy Awards. He was honored in 2000 for Lifetime Achievement by the American Comedy Awards. - George Carlin died in 2008.
