The first image is just to get your attention. I have posted it in the past and some have attributed it to Welz. My real question deals with the next three. The images were obtained for "Fairy Lamps - Elegance in Candle Lighting" by Ruf and Ruf.

The second image has what appears to be the Welz honeycomb pattern. Image three and four have very similar bases but the glass type is different. I suspect, without any evidence, that these three are from the same company. Question is, of course, who?

Any help, comments, or theories are welcome.

    Jim.

      Nice lamps by the way.....

So here is my take on the pieces..... For what it is worth, I would preface it by saying that I do not collect Fairy lamps, but I do study decors and shapes, and have for many years now.

I would likely agree that the first example is Welz production in Harlequin Honeycomb.... or Rainbow Honeycomb as some refer to it. The second example also appears to be Harlequin Honeycomb to me as well. Although it is suggested that Harrach may have made the same décor, I have never seen solid research to show that to be true, though I would welcome such material.

I would agree that the next three appear to possibly be the same production house also. I would comment that in these pics at least, the chimney piece of the last two appears to be slightly taller than the other two examples. In evaluating a refiners production, this could be a significant difference.

The décors seen on the last two examples are decors which are not found, to this point at least, on specific Welz production. Similar décors... yes....

Based on the shape similarity of the three, and also the known Welz décor on the first two, I would suspect Welz as the production house on the last two also..... but at this point only a suspicion for the last two.

I think that some of the issues with evaluating production offered by a refiner such as Hosch, are the question of designs, décors and sources.

      By that I mean:

Designs: Did Hosch select from a shape previously produced by a particular house, request a modification of an existing product, or did they provide the physical design themselves.

Décors: Did Hosch design and request specific décors, or did they select shapes in known or seen décors, or a combination of both?

Sources: Did Hosch use a singular producer for a single shape, or did they use multiple sources for the same shape.

Having a background in business and manufacturing, it would be most logical that they would limit the single shape to a single house, thereby assuring themselves of a consistency of shape and quality for the product, in addition to the execution of specific décors. Some people suggest that this business was different than any others.... glass in Bohemian/Czechoslovakia that is.... but we should never lose sight of the fact that these were business people first, and glass makers second...... Glass was simply the vehicle they chose for the family to exercise their business acumen.

I would be more inclined to solidly attribute the last two examples to Welz if I were to see an example of known Welz production in one of those two same decors, or if I were to see the shape of the last three in decors I was sure were Welz production.

An interesting question.... to say the least.....

Once again, Thanks for posting these....
