OLD ABELAM DAGGER CASSOWARY BONE

OLD ABELAM BONE DAGGER A fine classic bone dagger from the Abelam people of the Wosera region. Surmounted by the iconic birdlike form that can be seen throughout Abelam art, the dagger also has fine clan etchings throughout with a delicate spirit or ancestral face carved into the center. The thigh bone of the cassowary, a large, ostrich-like bird, is the most common bone made into daggers. Cassowary bone daggers are around 15 - 18 inches long (35 - 45 cm). Pig bone is used for smaller knives. Human bone daggers from slain enemies or deceased, powerful relatives are worn by warriors.
We have cassowary here in Australia.Although they are native to the far north of Australia there are not many around.They are very dangerous and can attack a human with their hard horn type bone on top of their head and very sharp claws
