    Hi
    Everyone.
I being so happy today return hunting, at my regular thrift store after this long week-end, an i not being dessapointed about the result, fews great find, but for sure this one was the corronation of the day.
Gorgious Murano colorful piece of glass, white, pink, green and blue, i believe my best piece yet(for a rookie), very delicate, with mouvement within the glass, i know this one was not made by anybody else then the Italian Master Glassmaker from the Island of Murano.
Look by yourself this is a Masterpiece, this beauty stand 5.50 tall by 8 inch long on 1.75 inch base, have a nice label, we can read "Murano Glassware, Crystal Clear,Made in Italy.

    Thanks for Viewing

      Nice Decor Piece!

Not true Murano, made in Italy. Do not mind me Alan -- It is just MY pet peeve of mine on these pieces since they are not real Murano Glass and so many people assume they are. Again -- MY pet peeve. Real Murano glass is a legend, a history, a style, and a quality. So many times I see on Ebay these listed as Real Murano. It is a Nice piece - made in italy (not on the island of Murano).

Again - do not mind me -- as just my pet peeve. Real Murano Glass has so much more quality too it.

Lovely decor piece, and lovely colors

      Hi
      Antiquerose
So ,,you not see it, this one in person so, just wonder, by the picture, you can say it's not good quality ??
I just started to collected glass, so this one,,, when i take in my hand was so heavy and delicate at the same time, even better then the 2 leaf plate i post month ago.
Well i don't know anymore, so confusing all this, so what the sticker for, feak piece ??
      Regards
      Alan

So antiquerose, even if it has a sticker saying Murano, it isn't THE Murano?? You know, this little bowl did remind me of the pink bowl I posted, has similar design and pressed fins, mine was IDed as Lavorazione.
    7. antiquerose antiquerose, 10 years ago
Hi Alan -- I have had some of these too in the beginning. I then thought they were Murano too. I never knew, believe every sticker I saw. After years of seeing, feeling, holding -- their is a Big difference. I myself now know it. They are Pretty pieces in their own right, just not real Murano Art Glass. So many people think it is Real Murano Glass -- and that is what gets me. I once thought it was too.

I guess that is why the D'oro piece I posted rubs me the wrong way. It is pretty, stunning, artistic and everything even with a name Seguso on it (known name for Murano Glass) -- But is not true Murano Glass.

I am just trying to help you Alan, not knock you down. People should be open to learn....just like I did in the beginning and thought these were true Murano glass. People helped me understand the difference. That's all

Yes, Glass is and can be confusing -- that is why I am trying to help you

      Beautiful!!!!

Let me start off by saying that, although not Murano, it's still a beautiful piece of Italian glass. Being that you purchased it in a thrift store, you most likely didn't pay a whole lot for it, so you come out ahead either way. Most importantly, you love the piece, which is the reason most of us collect. For me, the giveaway that it is not true Murano, is the label. The words "Murano Glassware" and "Crystal Glass" are wrong. What I would suggest is that you educate yourself, as much as possible, in all aspects of Murano glass. There are many excellent reference books available which illustrate the various techniques, decors, and designers of true Murano. A few examples are: "Art Glass From Murano 1910-1970" and "20th Century Murano Glass" both by Marc Heirman and "Italian Glass Century 20" by Leslie Pina. Also, familiarize yourself with the different labels used to identify Murano. Here are a couple of websites with all sorts of labels. http://www.fossilfly.com/Forums/album.php?albumid=5
      http://www.20thcenturyglass.com/glass_encyclopedia/glass_labels/glass_labels.htm
      https://sites.google.com/site/muranozoo/useful-links-books/murano-labels
Finally, when I first started collecting, I bought many pieces on ebay listed as "Murano" that later turned out to be Chinese (it's happened to all of us and is part of the learning curve). As your Murano journey goes on, you'll be better equipped to tell the real from the not-so-real. Good luck. -Rick

Many thanks rick55 for the comment, much appreciated.
I like the way you comment my post, i really do.
Now, i take good note on that, actually, this is what i did when i start antique picking and later with bank related items, well i think was the excitement of start a new quest, that make me forgot the rule of thumb,,,, info, learning and looking before moving to this direction.
Alway's good to be put back in track.
Thank you so much for make me think, about gathering info to become better in that field of expertise.
      Regards

Well Said Rick55 [quote] -- "" Finally, when I first started collecting, I bought many pieces on ebay listed as "Murano" that later turned out to be Chinese (it's happened to all of us and is part of the learning curve). I think that is why it is my personal pet peeve. As Rick55 stated above - many pieces are listed to be Murano, but are Chinese. That is the way it is right now. Newbies on Ebay (or where-ever) see things listed as Murano and do not know. Believe me, I bought some of these in the early days too. Many a books were taken out from the library on Murano Glass, and Inter-library loans for books. I have just gotten better at recognizing Murano glass and their labels now.
