This vase would have been made in the 1950s, just about the time Ottavio and Rosita Missoni started making and selling their signature knits, and they would make a great pairing!.
I can't imagine there was any deliberate crossover however.
This is such an iconic 50s shape for Japanese glass and Kurata made some of the best in this pulled style.
This one is big even by Japanese standards and with lots of work in that pattern! Typically for Kurata the glass is very well made, no bubbles or marks, clear cased, and well finished.
The colours range from a chocolately brown, to purple, white, apricot and mauve. The form has initially been moulded and although it's difficult to see because of that busy pattern there are slight ridges at regular intervals of about 2cm running vertically up the body.
Height is 26cm, width 20cm, weight 2.1kgs
Love it ;-)
Beautiful... and yes, it does look knitted ...I think my mom made an afghan in these colors years ago :)
Stunning Karen.....you never cease to amaze!

What a beautiful piece again, racer4four.
Lovely :-)

It would be great to see how something like this was made, it's amazing what can be done with glass!
Very beautiful... I love everything about it.
Either you all have very good taste (!) or I have trained you well because a lot of people don't appreciate this glass quite like I do.
Thanks everyone for loving it and seeing the skill in making it!
