This was the piece I had to leave behind after I purchased the Wein Keramos flamingo and dog figurines last week. It was too expensive and today's half price sale made it affordable. Waechtersbach made some very nice mid-century pottery. Colorful fat lava glazes, incised decoration and fantastic shapes. This is a little tame by comparison. A nice fluid tear drop shape in a soft speckled turquoise matte glaze. Some lightly incised decoration adds some texture to the piece. The bottom marks are complete but a bit light. The shape and style of this vase was given the name "Koln" from what I can make out. There are other examples online of Waechtersbach's work with names like "Ursula" and "Sparta". I actually like the simple shape and soft color of this vintage mid-century vase. -Mike-
