Silverover…
(1 item)
The blue vase with silver decor fascinated me since I was a child.
When we visited my grandaunt in Pforzheim / southern Germany I always stared to it. She passed the vase on to my parents where it stood for a long time on a cupboard. So almost 35 years passed when I found the green vase on Ebay incidentally. Beside the same form (which I never saw again) also the similarity of decor was stunning. If there wouldn´t have been a rather good description about technique, manufacturer, etc. my fascination and my passion for collecting never would have started.
Today I am addicted to silver overlay.
Later I learned about `Friedrich Deusch´that he was the inventor of German silver overlay (end of 19th century). So the blue vase probably is my oldest in my collection, designed by `Friedrich Deusch´(as far as I know today). He had his firm in Schwäbisch Gmünd from 1901.
The green vase is by `Friedrich Wilhelm Spahr´, who founded his firm in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1937. It is very supposable that `Spahr´did his apprenticeship in `Deusch´s firm.
Great info and stunning overlay!!! and welcome to collectors weekly!!! :)
What a truly beautiful piece of glass. I have not seen overlay like this before.
Thanks for the background story too!
Hi race4four - thanks but the vases are from porcelain.
