- The cover picture is The Cathedral Rocks (or Three Graces) with the Bridalveil Fall (right side). The Indians called this waterfall "Pohono", or puffing winds. The back cover picture is the famous Yosemite Falls, of which the total height of the waterfall is 2,425 feet. - The third picture is from circa 1875 of the first stagecoaches entering the Yosemite Valley. This was fifteen years before the area was established as a National Park. The first car to enter the Yosemite Valley was a Stanley Steamer in 1900. The last picture is a black-tailed deer, one of the many types of native wildlife found in the park. ** Yosemite National Park was established in 1890 and covers an area of 747,956 acres of the central eastern portion of the U.S. state of California reaching across the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain chain.
