Can anyone tell me anything about my antique birdcage .
I'm not a collector just a spender and I paid £100 for this because I liked it.
I know nothing about it other than it originally came from a farmhouse ,which the elderly owner said it came from Harrods a long time ago.
It stands 83cm tall ,is beautifully decorated in blue white flower design .
The little feeder had been damaged .
The base and top are China/porceleine ,it has crackled with age.
I can't find any marks on it at all.
The lady who I brought it off said it used to house a small finch.
Please help me out .
I'd love to know age, maker, value anything really
Thank you cindB , I'd love to know if anyone else has one. I took it to a valuer who said he has not seen one so could only guess a valuation and dated it to 1920s 1930s, I don't want to sell. I just want to know a bit about it .
I cant belive! It is awesome, love it!
We raise birds and as a result we get to bird fairs and such events. I have seen only a handful of cages this old and fancy. The ones I have seen were advertised as being bell cages ( I assume because of the shape ). I am also sure the ones I have seen were made in France. I think your dates are pretty much accurate. The style was copied but the cages were mostly made of cheap metal and fairly common at flea markets. Your cage is very uncommon here in the USA. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you for this lovely information, I was told continental by valuer as well so this makes sense .he also said it would tie in with the Harrods connection as often things were shipped from across the English channel from France..no problem I have more pictures .i just collect beautiful things.
