My grandfather says he got this for my grandmother while he was stationed in Japan. I believe he got at the local five and dime. Any other opinions on age and/or maker? It seems to be porcelain if that helps any.
It is porcelain made in "occupied japan". This would have been in the late 1940s (after ww2) to sometime in the fifities. Half of the porcelain that Japan produced for export was marked "made in occupied japan" the other half was simply marked "made in japan" in red ink. If there is no signature on your piece, the maker will be hard to find. However your piece is a rare quality and possibly handpainted, so you may be able to attribute it to a region or person with that info. It is a lovely piece to share with everyone here at CW.
