I bought this same stove in 1975 from a ninety year old lady for $90.00. Her receipt showed she paid $40.00 for it from Montgomery Ward, but I can't remember the receipt date.I believe it was made in the late 30's . Not the prettiest or the fanciest, but a great stove to use and stay warm with.

I have a chance to by a stove exactly like the one pictured. I was wondering what the knobs on the box around the pipe are for. I know one opens the damper but not sure about the other one.

If anyone knows where I can get replacements for the cast iron top, please let me know. My e-mail is excabby@verizon.net. Thank you soooo much.

I have this stove and the book that came with it. Although it doesn't list the year, I know it was purchaseed in 1941. I've seen it listed as a 1937 model. It is MODEL DA and weighs 548 lbs. The 3 dampers on top should be turned to left and the one on left side of stove pulled forward when starting a fire. As the fire progresses you can turn the dampers to left and push the one on the side back. If you stove smokes you can try opening 1 0f the2{or both} left dampers on top. The far right damper on top turns the fire around the oven. Keep reservior filled with water ; an empty resevior developes leaks. Mine has a 10 gallon capacity. Mine has a long rod on the left side at back that I believe controls a pipe damper, instuctions not clear on this. If your flu is taller than the peak of roof your stove will draw better.Home comfort began using the enamel jacket in 1923. The last notation in my book is 1937.

EDIT:Starting fire turn knobs to RIGHT as the fire progresses turn the first two dampers to the LEFT. Lines on knobs with dampers open will be vertical and closed the lines will be horizontal. I PLEAD OLD AGE!

I have the identical stove in my kitchen but am having a problem with it smoking even when the dampers are open. There is a piece at the bottom of the oven of the stove with a knob on it that has come open and I can't get it to close. Now there is a burnt wood smell permeating my house. Can anyone tell me how to close it?

      Hi, LakelifeVA. :-)

You probably should create a post of your own, with up to four pictures. One of the pictures should be of the part you're describing. That way, somebody here who is familiar with similar old stoves might be able to help you.

In the meantime, here is an archive dot org copy of the 1933 Home Comfort Cookbook, which includes a picture of the DA model (Page 8), and some operating instructions (Page 9):

LakelifeVA, Here's another potential source for help (I found a reference to it on another forum where users were seeking help with vintage or antique stoves):
