This goes with my HO version. This is GP-9 built EMD in 1959. EMD being the Electro-Motive Division of GM. This is a high hood unit as were most of the early diesel freight locomotives. Makes for poor visibility as you can only see one side of the locomotive. It has 1750 horsepower, not a huge amount for a locomotive but this is mid sized unit meant for switching or road use.
SP 3873 is at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo, near San Diego.

No not at all. I'd be more than happy for you to give me a telephone. Is there a contact number I can reach you on? Or if you would rather post an email address we can send a number through there instead of posting publically! Thank you,

      Becky. :-)

My favorite "generation" of EMD. I'm very much an F unit fan, and these rate a close second. Love the sound of their engines, which were very distinct sounding.
Visibility on these was actually better than that from a steam locomotive. I visited a steam loco, on display, that one could actually climb into the cab. The restricted view was shocking. I'd say it would be comparable to looking the other way, on this loco, down the long hood.

Thank you very much RVolskay. I have had the cab view from a steam locomotive too. Visibility horrible. Don't tell anyone but I was the only one looking out back on the return trip.
