Many years ago I bought this beautyfull item from an antique jeweler in Germany. He told me this tiara was submitted by a noble German family. But it was not the daughter's taste anymore so she wants to sell it.
As the jeweler told it was made a tiara because it has a round shape gradient, but I am not sure. So I would like to know what it was made for in origin? If you can tell me more please let me know.
Made of silver over rose gold with old cut diamonds set in silver. One big diamond in the center (5 mm diameter) and two on the sites and further more 40 little diamonds all in good and clair condition. The attached chain is 18ct white gold.

The French were most adept at mounting precious stones in silver, so if that is the manner in which this is made, it might well be French in origin. It is not likely that it is a ferroniere, since historical portraiture shows those (and typically they are defined) as having a single stone on a chain rather than a large ornate working as you have. I would be more inclined to say it is early 1800s French and either a remnant of a large jointed necklace or even a stomacher, or perhaps diadem turned upside down and joined by the more modern chain. It's lovely!

A beautiful necklace. I saw one recently in a similar style at an antique shop and noticed that there were irregularities on the back of the mountings, uneven casting etc. I'm curious if yours is the same way and whether you know if it's typical of the period.

      Hi Davyd286,
Thanks for your comment. No, there are no irregularities at all on the back of the mountings of my necklace, as you can see on the recently placed picture of the backsite. And as far as I know those irrigularities are surely not typical of that period. Also in the past there were very good skilled handwork man (perhaps sometimes they were even beter than some nowadays.

That piece of jewelry is one of my Mosaics under the link: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/44478-fantastic-large-micro-mosaic-brooch but I'm realy fond of all my Micro Mosaics as you can see amongst my jewelry. And what is nicer to be so lucky to spend time on a hobby?

The first jewelry I placed on CW is already three years ago and was this one. Awonderful piece of gold with in silver placed rose cut diamonds. My question than and still is who knows what this was mentioned for when it was made???? In the below comments several opportinities but not one I think is the final. It has a light bold form but was not a diadem nor I suppose a stomacher. Who has the clue???

Agram.m, it is handmade and I checked with the jeweler at the store and he said it was about 1880's and I agreed. Or maybe even a little before...I think 1860's since there are all handcut diamonds and handmade setting with gold and silver...thats our guess. My guess its Georgian/Victorian...

Moonstonelover21 thanks for your interesting comment and loving but do you have any suggestion what this could be before it was a necklace. As you can see in the description the seller told me that it was a tiara/little diadem do you think so too??

freitheit, as so may times you'r loving my jewelry, thanks a lot!

Agram.m, it could have been a Tiara.....what are the measurements?
    16. Agram.m Agram.m, 12 years ago
Moonstonelover21, it is perhaps an exaggeration to think that this has been a tiara like a small diadem. Measurement wide 3" but the measure of the whole bow is a little bit larger namely 3.8" the middle section is 1.1"" high.
    17. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 12 years ago
I would say no it was not a Tiara...but its still stunning!!!!
