I hadn't been to the GW in Oberlin in months so I figured I'd find something. They've been rearranging most of the stores in our area and straighten them up . This was sitting on one of their new bin tables with other odds and ends. While they are purely decorative pieces, I just love them if they're well done. All hand painted beautiful birds and flowers and even some gilding. One side has the Peacocks and the other has a Golden Pheasant. This one stands 24" tall and is in perfect condition. I have several of these types of vases and they mostly come from Hong Kong and Macau where the blanks from China are sent to be decorated. The bottom on this one is rough and unglazed and sometimes they are marked, but this one is not. It could be 60's or newer but it can be hard to tell. -Mike-

      Wow, big and beautiful.

I hare when op shops get organised......I never find things!

Mike I had the base of my Japanese vase interpreted and it says Satsuma OsamuMine. All I can find is a family called Mine who were potters, and Osamu is a common male name. No help really.

Thanks Karen :) ..... That's great about your vase being Satsuma. So it is from that province. There are so many families and kilns it can be very confusing. I always have stuck in my mind more gilding with raised decoration when it comes to Satsuma like the egg shape pieces I have. There are many styles as I found out from reading the Satsuma article on Gotheborg's site.
