It's a flexo print plate used by a newspaper or magazine printer. The Coca-Cola ad looks 1950's (as the post-war economy boomed, leisure time activities like barbeques, camping, tailgating became very popular). I'm going to go out on a limb and say newspaper ad print plate, the 56/112 is a date code, 112th day of 1956.
Letterpress not flexo thanks eye.
And I am not (obviously)! ;0)
I'll be sure to tell the guys in our graphics dept. about this.
Interesting, thanks for the info....
I have several more.
Sharette, I see these come up on eBay often usually attached to a block, usually small in size, maybe 2x2x1. They can be collectible depending on age, condition, and content. Sometimes sellers will ink the image on a piece of paper to show the positive image (this being a negative...help me out here eye...artistically challenged Coke collector running amok!).
These are called "cuts". Dates are not usually on these and are usually made of Linotype metal , similar to lead with a copper wash. Google search " printer cut" for more information.
