i got this print out of an old art magazine from around 1910-1920. i love the image! i framed it a long time ago. i'm pretty sure that it said that it is from Japanese mythology. does anyone know anything about it?

The 'oculos' (okulos) or eye on the prow throws me a bit too!

I immediately thought Haida, but ....

" In the Indo-Pacific region, the oculus is found widespread along a chain practically unbroken from the south of India through the Indo-Chinese peninsula, in China and then across the Pacific to the coast dwellers of British Columbia. The American oculi are closer to the Indian than the Chinese, which have become stereotyped. "

thank you CindB and Vetraio50! i've seen people w/ feet like that - mainly amongst indigenous people of the Amazon. i think that this guy is Ainu. that is interesting about the oculos vetraio50. i'm going to have to study up on it.
