This vase is unlike anything I have seen produced by Iwatsu but I really dig it. One of the things I really like about Japanese glass is the constant surprises, due I think to their continuing use of studios even in big companies (and Iwatsu is BIG).
The Japanese are very proud of their creativity and skills, and although most companies have production pieces and designs, there appears to be and has been, quite a lot of creative freedom.
This vase is a sleeper. It looks like a free form ball of white and blue, but the colour is not just blue. It is mixed with cream, black and sand coloured glass to make a swirl of water and sand amongst the white.
Or maybe it's a Van Gogh sky!
It has been blown and hot worked so it is not completely spherical but a really organic shape. Hot finished rim, ground base.
Height 16cm
This one has a really great look to it. Very nice indeed!!
stunning!!
It's gorgeous and the shape adorable and the colours, so in for this year, could almost find its way to the Block in one of the flats "it's so on trend" ..
Hi racer4four! I'm anxious to get home and photograph a Cased Spatter blue & white "bamboo-shaped" vase that has an acid etched "Made in Japan" mark underbase. Love the items from Japan that you have been uploading lately. Bob
Thanks Scott - glad you like it!
