I am definitely going to need help with this one. As far as I know it is from the 1950's and that there aren't too many out there. This one is NOS and works perfectly. The painted clock has dial hands which give it an abstract look. An amazing piece!
The watch caught my attention. There was a Knickerbocker Watch Company in New York from 1890-1930.
I wonder if Ruppert was making a connection here?
Dave
I had no idea, that would explain why the clock keeps precision time
Prells6,
Jacob "Colonel" Ruppert Jr. was born Aug. 5, 1867 and died Jan. 13, 1939.
At the age of 10 he entered the brewing industry through his father who owned the Jacob Ruppert Brewery in Yorkville on New York City's upper east side. From 1911-1914, Ruppert Jr. served as president of the United States Brewers Association. When his father died on May 25, 1915, he inherited his fathers brewery business. On December 31, 1915 Ruppert Jr. & Tillinghast Huston bought the New York Yankees Baseball team and they owned it together until 1922. In 1922 Jacob Ruppert Jr. bought it outright and was sole proprietor until his death on Jan. 13, 1939.
Ruppert's brewery specialized in the "Knickerbocker Beer" and Extra Pale Ale. They became the bestsellers in the New York market and was the first all-local brewery to reach the "million-barrel" mark in 1916.
In 1917, he (the NY Yankees) acquired pitching ace Carl Mays from Boston and the next year signed Babe Ruth.
After Ruppert died in 1939, the brewery continued until it closed in 1965. Although Jacob Ruppert Jr. owned the N.Y. Yankees, through the 1950's his Knickerbocker Beer was the sponsor & "beer of choice" for the N.Y. Giants baseball team (now the San Francisco Giants).
Although this short research on Knickerbocker Beer was very interesting, mainly because I am an avid baseball fan, the pocket watch in your your advertising sign above was what attracted me to your post, and reminded me of the Knickerbocker Watch Co. I will make a post of the Knickerbocker watch.
Thanks for sharing,
Dave
