I bought these hatters irons a couple of years ago, at an antique flea market, thinking they may be helpful to me in my trunk restorations. I never found a use for them. So, they remained on a shelf, in my shop, for the past couple of years.

I recently found out what these are and what they were originally used for. They were manufactured by the Michael Mahony Co.-Troy, NY and patented in either November 1875 or 1876 (can't really make out the numbers too well).

These were used by hat makers. They are hat polishing irons that were used for polishing the brims of hats. I had never seen anything like them until I purchased them.

Someone had painted these gold, before I purchased them. I cleaned the gold paint from these and wiped them down with gun oil afterwards, to keep the finish from rusting.

I also found out that these are worth a little more than the $10 that I paid for the pair. So, they're now off the shelf of my shop and on display in my house.

    Thanks for looking!!
    Scott

You got a great deal at 10 bucks for the pair, as they sell for allot more than that. I think I would use them as book ends until I found a home for them. Nice Find!

Thanks Wayne! They were a great find. Although, I didn't realize it at the time I bought them. They also make excellent doorstops, which is what they're actually being used for currently. Thanks again Wayne!
