Paid $6 dollars for this WWI RPPC. I STRONGLY BELIEVE it is SGT.YORK in the middle. Compared to the popular and KNOWN photo of SGT.YORK, notice the following:
    SAME STYLE overseas cap...
SAME STYLE collar insignia worn JUST on the right side
    SAME pointy ears
    SAME moustache
has SGT. stripes on sleeve. ..

I think it IS SGT.YORK......wonder what the value would be....

Can never really go on unidentified & unmarked pics, but sure looks like you might be right.

I don't see York in the photo, but I am a huge skeptic of "looks like" without any other supporting evidence.

What is on the back of the image? Do you have a picture of his Company CDR-- how does it compare to the guy in the overcoat?

      Good luck making the case!

Well Scott, it's at least not Jesse James. Looks like York to me, but you're right about ass-u-m-ing.

I've no proof one way or the other, but here's why I think not:

Sergeant's stripe has what looks like a T-shaped emblem just under the chevrons. The only thing that I know of in WWI that was about that shape was medical caduceus, so possible Medic - SGT York was not.

No whistle chain, as seen in the known photos - I can't fine my reference, but I believe only NCOs in combat leadership positions wore these. So York would have.

He's wearing an overseas stripe, so He's been in France for over six months. By then York should have had his ribbons to wear.

Sorry to be such a downer.

the guy in your photo looks younger and smaller than Sgt York

notice the real Sgt York has older looking eyes? and he also looks larger with broader shoulders, the guy in the photo looks younger and not built as big as York.

I've come to the positive decision that it is Eddie Murphy! Or maybe Frank James, -- or, ---?
