This is the other strange gouache painting that is a mate to the previous post. This one has devils and doves and it may relate to this quote from the Bible:

Matt 10:16. "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves"

Once again, the people who were with me in the shop thought that I was crazy for buying the two paintings. On the back of this one is the name "Allen Landon."

I am hoping that someone can tell me something about these.

It's super interesting. I don't know what it represents, but love everything about it... Even the devil...

vl, I must say, this is a huge departure from what usually "speaks to you." I didn't see the mate you posted but when I first saw this one, I thought it was painted on black velvet so I was looking for Elvis in the picture. :-))

vetraio never misses. Your two devils are "satyrs," even though they do not have goat (Roman) or horse (Greek) legs.

"Early artistic representations sometimes include horse-like legs, but in 6th-century BC black-figure pottery human legs are the most common."
      Courtesy Wikipedia:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satyr

The interpretation could possibly be as written in the Wiki article referenced above since it includes birds:

"About Satyrs, Praxiteles gives a new interpretation on the subject of free and carefree life. Instead of an elf with pointed ears and repulsive goat hooves, we face a child of nature, pure, but tame and fearless and brutal instincts necessary to enable it to defend itself against threats, and survives even without the help of modern civilization. Above all, the Satyr with flute has a small companion for him, shows the deep connection with nature, the soft whistle of the wind, the sound of gurgling water of the crystal spring, the birds singing [hence, the birds], or perhaps the singing a melody of a human soul that feeds higher feelings."

I know you realize I am just having fun with you since you have such an exquisite and vast collection. If by chance it was the colors of black and orange that spoke to you, do I need to point you in the direction of Hamilton prints?

solver, Wow... thank you so much for the interesting read and I do like the Hamilton prints. I have no idea why I like the ones that I posted because I despise the velvet "paintings." I guess that I am too impulsive! Could you please give me your thoughts on the Mozart portrait I posted very early in joining CW. I hope that this link will work. Thank you so much and, once again, greatly appreciated!
