Hutschenreuther Turvel, Blue Band Napoleon & Josephine Motif Center.

Mom always had this on her table after dinner. a dessert set, with Coffee Pot, sugar creamer, cups and saucers and plates. Even tiny, personal ashtrays (back in the day when people smoked!) Our large family and friends would gather after any holiday to enjoy Italian treats and it was a BIG DEAL to get to sit with the adults and sip strong coffee.. this set made us all feel like kings and queens. The pieces (Coffee pot sugar creamer) are in great condition and so are the plates & ashtrays. The cups are in various states! Two of the cups were replaced with cups after WWII as they are marked US Zone. While the rest of the set does not have this annotation.
Mom gave me the set several years ago knowing I would cherish it and well, heck, less likely I'll break it with no kids in the house!
The motif of Napoleon varies with each piece, His battles, marriage and coronation as Emperor. There's more, not less in each piece. The painted centers, (even on the saucers) the rich brown background and then the incredible blue and gold band, followed by the jeweled & gold rim. This set has always had a WOW factor for me, I love it, and I hope you will to. If anyone has seen a set with this Napoleon motif, leave me a note, I have seen Hutschenreuther china with the SAME design, but with a lady & Minstrel people center, I have not seen Napoleon online. Best to you all!!
I wanted to add some new information. Mom just told me that her Aunt Mary (who she received this set from) was serving in Germany during the end of the war tot the early 50's. She purchased the entire set for a what we would consider a small sum today. So, now I se why some of the pieces are prewar and some are stamped with the US Zone post war stamp. I am hoping some pieces will come available, I need the coffee cups the most (most fragile!). There are dinner plates etc that are out there, but I like this as a dessert set, the plates, coffee pot etc that come out after a wonderful meal. Hey every one have a wonderful day!

I would luv to have a set, but would probably end out in jail because I would probably kill anybody who broke a piece. Really nice art pieces!

Thanks, It's really stunning in person, and I have to say.. since Mom let us "live" with this set on those occasions , when something did get broken it was really just part of life. There were six kids! But most of it did survive really well, I think my friends get nervous when I set a cup in front of their husbands!! :o)

What a wonderful story. It’s great that you still use it too, but I would be upset if any got broken. I’m 6th in a family of 8 and my mother was number 10 in her family, so, needless to say, I don’t have any family heirlooms, but did get a few nice things from my husband’s side, he was an only child!

Looks like they’re quite rare! If you need to replace any pieces, you can leave the info with replacements.com. they have nothing in stock right now, but will let you know when they do. Here’s a link:http://www.replacements.com/webquote/HUTHUT1393.htm#7845737

THANKS MARYH! I actually did look at replacement.com, but, they do not have an exact match to my pattern. Looking closely you'll see the pattern they come up with is of "Minstrel and Lady" while the pattern here is Napoleon & Josephine.. so you're doubly right.. it is RARE! I have looked for almost 8 years online and have only gotten this close.. the pattern, but with different "people".
As an aside, Mom was an only child, so I think her 6 kids gave her quite the headache when it came to the china and grandma's things.. but hey, a lot of it did survive! :o)
