This is a 1975 Roosevelt Dime "lamination" error strike. - The coin was well-struck on both sides however the blank (or planchet) is stripped of or missing easily 80% of the nickel portion of the alloy. - A lamination defect occurs when a foreign substance, such as gas oxides or dirt, becomes trapped on the planchet strip as it is rolled out to the proper thickness. Some lamination flaws may have the fragment of metal simply peeled back and still attached but this one is missing most of the nickel plating. The edge thickness of this coin is almost paper-thin, less than a millimeter. The diameter is only 17mm (full size would be 17.9mm) and has no reeded edge as there was not enough metal present to form a full rim.
