    Was going through some old family photos (1900 - 1930) and found this photograph with Ty Cobb signature on it. The only print on the back is the number "9" in pencil. The signature looks like it was part of the photo process and not a signed photograph. This is a mystery to me. Can anybody help?

      An interesting image .... Very young .... But is it Cobb?

      I have also puzzled over this. The face is not as round as he appears in older pictures but he is very young here. I am assuming that a young man with baseball uniform with signature of Ty Cobb below must be Ty Cobb but I posted this as a mystery and my knowledge of this time period is nil!

      Here is a 1904 photograph when he was with the Augusta Tourists if that helps any;

      The photo is so small and I cannot see the face. Regardless, IMO the signature does not have any resemblance to any of those represented on the net as that of Ty Cobb.

      From Google images:

      It seems logical he would have signed it --- since he was there --- instead of a legend written by someone else.

      The signature looks similar to me with the exception of the carrying of the line from the last "b" under the name. That may have been lost as the signature appears to be part of the development process of the photo rather than handwritten on the photograph. If an underline was used it would have been lost in the photograph white border since the writing is white.

      ? Why under the one *B* in Cobb -- is there extra black under it and does not make that line edge straight?? Looks added, and then copied --Possibly ??????????

      Yes, this is what it looks like to me. It looks like it is some sort of mass produced photograph with a signature added to the negative. It brings to mind a baseball card but it is definitely a photograph with no printing on the back?????
