Found this Rodin statue at an thrift store a few years ago. The base is two inch. and the statue itself measures 10 inches tall and approx.6 inches around the bottom. According to an article i read , " A large number of bronze cast were done of the Kiss ., The Musee Rodin reports that the Barbedienne Foundry alone produced 319. " According to the French law in 1978, only the first twelve can be called original editions." The material of this piece i am not sure, perhaps terracotta, marble, or possibly a cast plaster mold ? This piece was made before the Musee Rodin Report ... it has a lot of marks and writing on it, and just above the Barbedienne Foundry mark there is an inscription that i can hardly make out. On the back there are two more marks , one reads ( C 1977 AMR and the other is some kind of seal. Please help me ID this lovely piece. Thank you all.
I can read September 1902 on the inscription... maybe it would be worth to bring your piece to an expert or get in touch with the Rodin Museum. Good luck and congrats on a great find. Even if it's a repro it's lovely.
