I worked out the other day I have close to 30 (gulp) pieces of rainbow glass from Japan and I think I have a fair handle on who makes what even without stickers now.
This one has got me confused.
The colours used are the Iwatsu range of yellow, blue and red, but this is no Iwatsu vase. The yellow is too dark, the blue too murky, there is too much colour added to the clear, the casing is not thick enough, and just generally the aesthetic is not there.
It's not a badly made vase, it's just not to Iwatsu standard.
There is a lot of work in it however, and it is my biggest piece of rainbow glass.
How big? 30cm x 18cm x 5.2kg.
The search for suspects continues......
SUSPECT FOUND!!!
This vase now identified as being made by Hokuyo Glass.
beautiful!!! love the color and design!!
I agree with Sean 100%!!
Beautiful colors:)
Cool vase ;-)
So pretty!!!!
Thanks everyone!
Especially Sean, Scott, Trey, SD and Lee for the lovely comments.
Lovely vase....what is the Base like Karen ?? See IF I can help, or TRY to help...LOL
Narumi Fantasy Glass????? Sanyu ?? I have no idea...you know better!!
Love this :)
Rose, thanks for helping! The base is flat ground and polished and could belong to any of the Japanese makers. I looked at Narumi Sanyu, Marti, Kamei, all the usual suspects. IF it belongs to any of them it was either an early attempt or a bad day at the office......really it seems a bit clumsy compared to the others.
I know there are other lesser known glass producers in Japan that could have made this, and maybe they jumped on the style when it was prevalent and this is their attempt.
I'll keep looking - I have seen a similar online in Japan but it had no sticker either!!! I hope all this investigating is staving off our dementia!!!
Let me know if you come across anything.
Thanks Lise! Despite my comments it is pretty fantastic and at the moment is dominating my lounge room!
