- 1961-1966 AC Cobra (Great Britain) - Top speed of 160+ mph / 425 hp
- Renowned driver Carroll Shelby combined this British styled sports car with a Ford 427 cu.in. V8 engine to make the Cobra a speed machine only a race car could beat. - It could go from 0-60 in a mere 3.9 seconds.
The resulting Cobra was a very powerful roadster, and it is commonly blamed for the introduction of the 70 mph (110 km/h) limit on British motorways. While this was a major factor in the decision, a coupe version was caught doing 196 mph (315 km/h) during a test run, which also helped the introduction of the limit. Price in 1966 was $6,200 and today one in mint condition will bring in a value range of $250-500,000.
AC Cars Ltd. was formerly known as Auto Carriers Ltd., a British specialist automobile manufacturer and one of the oldest independent car makers founded in Britain.
