This is a rifle that has been in our family for three+ generations. It will shoot anything from 22 shorts on up to long rife hollow points. It is also a very accurate gun. The date of manufacture was June 1896. A couple other sports items in the way of 1920's tennis racket that was my grandfathers and a couple of his golf clubs from the 1950's. For all of you gun experts out there, I'm very close to being in violation of the firearms policy here. This piece may (or not) have just slipped under the wire. That's about all I need to say on that.
Thats a keeper - and very collectable too. Looks like a Winchester Model 90 - .22
and a bona fide antique, being well over 100 years old.
Say, it looks like it could use a little cleaning and oil. Must be the humid salt sea air where you are Bahamaboy. What that little 22 needs is some nice dry winter air far from salt water, somewhere like Minnesota. Hey thats where I live.
Email me your address and I'll pack it up and send it to ya. Well maybe not... But really, thank you for the comment. I keep oil on it because just as you said, the salt air here in Florida. I live on the St Johns river and the Atlantic ocean is about 7 miles away as the crow flies, but even the river, at this close to the mouth (at the Atlantic) is probably 30% salt if not more. They call it "brackish" down here. There is a tiny bit of pitting and I may have it re-blued at some point in the future but I really hate to mess with it. In fact I'm rubbing some gun oil on it today and I have my other hand tied to keep me away from the 1000 grit emory paper which I know would improve on the appearance but do nothing for the value. The gun is actually a 1906 model but had to say late 1800's to get in under the wire. They informed me that "NO FIREARMS" posted 20th century or newer, sooooo anyway... I had to pull the 44 magnum and a 1956 Beretta 765 automatic I posted earlier today. I don't know why everyone is so anti gun. I mean, maybe selling them on eBay I can see,... just a little bit. But not letting one post a gun here?? I don't know about that one. Anyway enough rambling on my part. Later....
This is sweet little gun. Feel free to donate it to me. I use Rem-Oil made by Remington on all my guns, I always wipe them down after handling. I have never had any problems with rust.
Yes. Living in Fl. is very rough on firearms. All of mine stay oiled real good and even more so after handling. Thanks for the tip on the oil and for stopping by to take a peek, along with the comment.
Super Winchester you got there. If you want a factory letter on this rifle you should get with the Cody Firearms Museum. I believe that they retain most of the old factory shipping and order spec material on hand for Winchester now.
I don't beleve your Win. is a model 1890. Win.1890 were chambered 22 short,22long, or 22long rifle, and they were not interchangable,also 22WRF. what ever it was chambered for 22long for example, that is the only cartaige that you could shoot in it. If you are goeing by the year of 1896 as when it was made, I think that is the patten date, I am pretty sure it is a Model 1906 made from 1906 until 1932. For sure it is not a model 1890.

Depending on condition, as the one pictured here any where from $2oo.oo to $400.00.
What about a 22 long J-Steven Arm & tool co.?
I think this looks like mine except that this appears to have a rounded barrel -- does it? Mine had an angled one - maybe six or eight sided? Anyway - nice rifle!
