I've bought this silverbowl with an old silver coin i the middle....
The Coin is a Archbishop Maximilian Gandolf von Kuenburg Taler from 1682.
it reads from below:
ANNO M.DC.LXXXII. FUNDATI ARCHIEPISCOPAT' SALISB: VNDECIMO SAECULO.
and inside of the bowl:
TRANSLATI A MAX: GAND: EX COMIT: DE KVENBURG ARCHIEP & PR: SALISB: S: SED: AP: LEG:
in exergue: SS: MARTINVS EP: VIN- CENTIVS M: HERMES M: CHRVSANTHVS ET DARAI MM:
i think it would be worth more as a coin....
Certainly it is in very good condition because of the mount compared to the example in the Kittredge Collection. I suppose you've seen the uncirculated example at "Finest Known"?
beautiful!!
We had a simmilar looking ashtray with a 1897 Alfonso 13TH silver coin... at some point it became popular in the 60s to do so. Apparently the coin lost value due to it being set on the silver plate... sad. But still it's a well prerved old coin.
Yes, I've seen the coin in the Kittredge Collection and the uncirculated example at "Finest Known" that's why I try to figure out if it is possible to get that coin out of the bowl without a demage...
Is there a way to eliminate the silver solder without damaging the coin?
would be interesting to know....
