My husband and I bought a building that was built in the late 1800's. This Philco radio sign was stored on the second floor. It looks awesome. It is two sided and should light up. It has chains attached to the top where it used to hang from.We have not tested it out, it has a loose wire coming out of the side where it used to be hard wired in to a building I am sure. I am curious as to if it is collectable or really old. We don't know what the value would be and would love some feedback!
is it metal or porcelain
The outside of it (dark blue) is metal but the white part that has Philco on it is like a plastic that light can shine through. It has bulbs on the inside that light it up. It is about a foot wide.
I have the identical sign. My wifes grandmother was closing a shop in Georgia after 35 years and this was hanging in the rafters before she took over the building. I have it stored at my house in SC now. This is so cool to finally find another one like it online. I have been in the sign business for 20 years and when I saw it, I had to have it. I was amazed that the sign company that made these signs long ago were able to pull of the faces. They are flat coming out of the retainer, then debossed in, them embossed copy. They also have the two tone blue pencil lines. All of the painting is on the second surface. I am going to have one of my best guys work on the internal lighting. I haven't tried to plug it in because I didn't want top damage it in case of an electrical short after being stored for so many years. I am going to make sure to keep the inside of the sign vintage. I am also very curiuos to see what the value of these old signs are, especially with it being in excellant condition.
